Rio (デジャネイロ, Dejaneiro) is a peppy ostrich villager in the Animal Crossing series. Her name is shared with the Brazilian city of Template:W, known for its flamboyant carnivals. Her actual species resembles a Template:W, an ostrich-like bird native to the country of Brazil, which her name references. Her initial catchphrase is a reference towards her aviary species, since newly hatched birds are called "chicks". She only appeared in Animal Crossing and its Japanese counterparts, before returning to the series in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the November 5th Free Content Update as part of amiibo Series 5.

She has the music hobby.

Appearance

Rio in Animal Crossing

Rio is a bright red ostrich with a yellow beak, bright orange stars on her cheeks, some dark reddish-brown hair on her head, and a multicolored tail. She has bluish-purple eye shadow. Rio also slightly resembles Phoebe, a sisterly ostrich introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. When it rains, she will carry a Kiwi Umbrella.

Personality

Rio has a peppy personality, meaning that she will be friendly and excitable. She will rarely get discouraged from doing anything and she will always be happy to see the player. She will have a tendency to say things like "omigosh" and will often tell the player of her dream of being a popstar or a diva. She is often hyper, probably due to her love of candy and sweet food. She will get along with jock, lazy, normal, and other peppy villagers, but may annoy snooty or cranky villagers, due to upbeat personality.

House

In Template:GC, her house has a unique look to it. She has many items from the Cabana Series, such as the cabana lamp, as well as some gyroids and conga drums. She has the Gold Stereo, which plays K.K. Samba.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, her house is filled with red furniture (from the cool series), like her modern contemporary Phoebe. Keeping up with the Brazilian theme, K.K. Chorinho plays on her portable record player.

Pocket Camp

Rio was added to Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in the November 29, 2021 update.

Rio's preferred theme is modern, and she primarily gives steel as a reward. Her profile reads:

❝ When Rio hears upbeat music, she can't help but start dancing. If you want to have a serious conversation with her, make sure the radio's off first.❞

Profile Rio has such a fixation on healthy food that's almost UN-healthy. Eating fruit is all well and good, but Rio's always falling for the latest health food craze... even if it involves eating tree bark.
