Rooney (マイク, Maiku) is a cranky kangaroo villager in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Along with Walt, he is one of the first and only male kangaroos in the series.

The name Rooney is play on "kangaroo," and also may be a reference to the boxer Template:W. Similarly, his Japanese name, "Mike", may be a reference to the boxer Template:W (as featured in Nintendo's Template:W).

His catchphrase, "punches," is in reference to the "boxing" nature in which kangaroo jacks fight, and possibly the resulting Australian icon, "the boxing kangaroo".

He has the fitness hobby.

Rooney is a light blue kangaroo. He has a black nose, downturned green eyes, and reddish brown hair and ears. His paws are red with a black stripe (possibly to represent boxing gloves), and his feet are black. His belly and the insides of his ears are yellow. He has eyebrows that are at an angle, making him look angry or annoyed. He initially wears a Black Track Jacket.

Personality

[edit | edit source]

Template:Pers Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Rooney will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature.

House

[edit | edit source]

Rooney's house is heavily based on a boxing gym. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he has a sandbag, a speed bag and a neutral corner, adding to the boxing theme. He also owns standard gym equipment, such as a treadmill, a weight bench, an exercise bike, and a butterfly machine. Rooney also has a Cassette Player that plays K.K. Adventure. His wallpaper is the Shanty Wall and his flooring is the Modern Tile.

Pocket Camp

[edit | edit source]

Rooney was added to Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in the November 24, 2020 update.

Rooney's preferred theme is sporty, and he primarily gives steel as a reward. His profile reads:

❝ Legendary for his ability to punch out his opponents in the ring before they can touch him at all. And by "legendary" we mean "no one's ever seen it happen.❞
